On behalf of the children, staff and governors of Rowena Academy – welcome to our new website. Whether you are already a member of our Academy community, a prospective member or indeed just browsing the web, we hope you find our website interesting, fun and informative. We hope that it will give you an insight into our Academy and that the website will become another effective way to build partnerships between home and school.

Rowena Academy is a Nursery and Infant Convertor Academy (age range 3 – 7) situated in Conisbrough near Doncaster. Rowena became an Academy on November 1st 2011 within DELTA Academies Trust.

The Academy became a Teaching School in September 2014 and has supported many other Academies and Schools in improving their practice.

The current number on roll is 295, with a Standard Admission Number of 80. The Academy continues to attract high numbers of pupils due to popularity in the community. The school serves its immediate community but does have some children who come from outside the catchment area as a result of parental choice. Many of these are children with Special Educational Needs or Disability who come to Rowena because of its outstanding provision for pupils with additional needs.

Conisbrough is a former mining community which was hit hard by the pit closures in the 1980’s. The majority of our pupils live in areas where there is deprivation characterised by high unemployment, an inadequate employment base, low average income levels, rundown housing estates and poor health. Rowena Academy is situated in an area of high social and economic disadvantage.

In September 2013 the Academy was placed on the OFSTED list of ‘Particularly Successful Schools and Colleges for 2012/2013’ for the third time.

At Rowena we realise that starting school is an important step in your child’s life. We aim to make your child’s time with us as happy, enjoyable and successful as we possibly can. We are firmly committed to education as a partnership with parents/carers, staff and governors all working together to support your child’s learning. We hope that you and your child will find enjoyment and fulfilment during your time with us and that our partnership will be a great success.
